Has Anyone Or Known Of Anyone That Has Taken The Following. How Is It.Memantine (Namenda)
@A myALZteam Member My wife has been taking Namenda 20mg for over two years now. Since July, when her diagnosis was made more precisely after a lumbar ponction, Donepezil 10 mg was added. This has improved her thinking and memory. All this came about after the confirmation of a mixture of two dementias: Alzheimer's and Lewy Bodies (LBD). This is a common mixture, but not easily diagnosed. No side effects have been noted. She was also weaned off a small daily dose of antipsychotic, which is contra-indicated with LBD.
NOTE ADDED: I have checked your previous posts and noticed that in February Donepezil was stopped and Sertraline was upped. My strong guess is that the diagnosis of your Loved One is quite different from that of my wife. There are at least four different dementias, and all of them can lead to different prescriptions.
ONE MORE NOTE: I notice you have posted nothing after that Post in February.and have explained very little and are on only 2 people's Teams. And look: you have now received answers from 5 people in a week's time (one of them is on my Team). A very gentle and friendly advice: care giving is not easy, and can become a heavy burden, you could get much more out of myALZteam by getting more regularly involved with other members. The overwhelming majority of members who do that find it a very rewarding experience and learn a lot from others. I am adding you to my own Team, so now you are on 3. Best wishes for you and your mother!
My husband who is early stage Alzheimer’s takes Namenda , recently increased to 10mg. twice a day along with other meds. I would say it has helped and he has had no side effects.
You are very welcome, @A myALZteam Member I hope you will Post some more!
One of them caused night terrors in my mother. Be sure to check side effects.
