How, What, Do You Do With Physical Aggression From The Alzheimer's Patient?
Is there a medication that any one has used for this problem that has been successful in lessen the physical aggression?
I do not respond to negative comments or when he calls me names (curse). I walk out of the room when he has a 4-year-old behavior. The man I married has changed thanks to this brain monster. In the past, he never raised his voice or cursed at me.
My husband was put on seroquel this summer to help with aggression towards me and our kids. It has lessened his aggression, but we have to keep on increasing the dose so it hasn’t been a magic fix. I’m still happy that it has helped.
That aggressive behavior has to be so scary for you. Please talk to his doctor for a review of his meds. It’s hard because some meds work better than others and not all the time. I hope you get more help for relief.
My hubby takes Mementine which has greatly reduced his anger, but he needs more cos sometimes he can't stop being angry at times. He also takes Lexapro which reduces his anxiety. The doc prescribes him 30 mg. He was very physical with me like pushing me or hitting me, One time he knocked me to the ground, but luckily it wasn't a bad one. I have an aide come in twice a week but only for short times.
Fran, I know it is tough. I too ignore the negative behavior my mom exhibits. When she gets that way I leave the room for a few minutes and try again. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s a hard journey we are on.
