Do Your Loved Ones Complain Of Widespread Pain?
Mom has complained of pain running up the entire right side of her body (or left side depending on the day). I wasn’t sure if this was just a ploy for her to get Tylenol, or if it is common with dementia or vascular issues. It is becoming a daily thing to text me about it, and to hound the nurses, but when the doctor or PA sees her, she just says the pain is controlled with Tylenol like it doesn’t concern her much. Sound familiar?
My husband is the opposite. He doesn’t complain about pain or illness even when I know that he’s sick or hurt. It sounds like he’s further along though. Even in the earlier stages, he didn’t seem to know how to communicate discomfort.
Dear LynnP, Just a guess but could her use of the word pain be her way of saying she's lonely and needing connection with another...I know my husband often substitutes words for an emotional need with a physical state. Like its hard for him to find the words to describe emotional pain or discomfort. Just a thought. Also I notice my husband will say he feels, for example tired or hungry, but if I ask him a few minutes later if he's tired or hungry he'll say no. These disconnects seem to happen more and more as his ALZ progresses. Sending support. Take care.
My husband hasn't complained about widespread pain since his B12 deficiency has been reversed. He always seemed to have aches and pains prior to. Now if he is complaining about pain it is specific and usually related to something that he was trying to do.
