Mom (who Has AD) Moved To Assisted Living With Her Dog Unfortunately The Dog Is Barking. Anyone Have A Solution? The Dog Is Such A Comfort.
Mom is still functioning fairly well. She loves her dog so much. Petting her calms her when she is especially confused and anxious. Have tried trainer (mom didn't let me him), anti-bark collar.. now am trying homeopathic remedy to calm dog, as well as kong to keep her busy. Dog mostly barks when Mom leaves. I know she won't b able to care for dog forever, but We want her to have her as long as possible. She is also grieving my Dad who recently passed away. Thanks.
Bark collars may work, or let the dog go places with her,so the dog is not left alone/sam Meds for separation anxiety for the dog could work also/sam
Mmmm its a hard one. A trainer would come to her facility but would she be able to keep up the training as with all dogs its about training the owner......not the dog.
If your mother is able to do a little consistent training, is possible that a trainer who would come to her assisted living home could help.
Oh this is so sad. I run a non profit rescue called Ivy's Ark Pet Rescue. It is set up for when someone passes or can no longer care for their pet. (ivysark.com) It is so important to keep them together as long as you can. I have used a kong with frozen peanut butter. It last long.
