Just for anyone who is worried about their loved one driving a car! My husband and I actually disconnected her battery so that the car wouldn't start. It never occurred to her to open the hood and check it. I slept LOTS better at night knowing she wouldn't get lost or get in an accident and hurt herself or someone else.

Oh, boy. Who can you call right NOW, to talk him down off the roof? Family, friend or neighbor? Someone nearby. In a pinch, call 911. Tell them your husband with Alzheimer's is on the roof and you're afraid he's going to fall.

And get RID of the ladder he used to get up there, so he can't climb up there again.

If he's obsessing because the shingles actually do need fixing, maybe the contractor who did the work a year ago can come back ASAP and fix whatever the problem is.

That was similar to how we stopped my MIL from driving. Hubs unfortunately still knows his way around tinkering on vehicles. Gonna have to hatch another plan for that one when it is time.

Great advice Helen5 and RobinAc. about being proactive & removing "temptations" that you realize are triggers for your LO to try to do something dangerous. The very reason I had to sell John's car secretively as he does not have a license, not insured and family as well as neurologist all agree he would be unsafe to drive. But if his car was in his sight he'd find a way to try!! And actually did start it by rolling it back in the drive & popping the clutch!! His rifles for hunting also gone. All meds tucked away so he can't just take ad lib. So this is a common problem for those of us living with & caring for LO's with ALZ. Good luck and take care.

Agree with Helen5 similarly I had to get rid of the stepping stool my Mother had, and oh by the way? Hedge clippers and even all the knives in the house (had a locked toolbox in a closet). I am so sorry XO
