What Are Signs Of A UTI In A 60 Year Old Women With Moderate To Severe Alzhimers?
Thanks muggy and Karen I believe we will go for a ride to Walgreens and see if they got a UTI kit better than paying 100 dollars to see pcp
Dark urine can also be from dehydration, foods we eat a several diseases. My one sone ate so many beets when I was canning that he peed red! It is hard with elderly. We tend to drink less as we age and don’t always feel the burning/pain on urination. There are kits you can pick up at Walmart, Target or a pharmacy. If it is negative you don’t have to worry. Try getting more fluids into them. Cranberry juice is good. If it turns positive, then you should take he to see a Dr. it MAY BE a UTI. The kits do help you to reduce dr visits when you are worried.
Hi Ronnie,
I would suggest that you call her clinic and report any symptoms she may be feeling. If she’s not incontinent, can she tell you how she feels? Of course you ask about any pain upon urination. Look for an increase in frequency of urinating. Some people will try not to urinate if it’s too painful. Check for fever. And dark urine.
I really recommend that you call her physician. Ronnie, it would be best to call the clinic for these kind of questions. Hope she feels better soon.
I should tell you that I’m a retired RN. One of the areas I worked in was ON/GYN. UTIs were a frequent subject. But I didn’t work with elderly patients.
(I didn’t see Muggsy’s response above before I wrote this. She’s correct. Dehydration is very common with the elderly. .)
@A myALZteam Member: I ordered UTI test strips on line through eBay and for a supply of 50 test strips, I paid just $12.33 (which included shipping!)
Good plan. 🙂
