How To Handle Sun-downers?
Hi Penny23,
Sundowning was the hardest for me to get through with my husband. It normally happens in the middle stage of Alzheimers - the agitation confusion and restlessness happens right as the sun is going down and can last through the night but for most 2 to 4 hours. I would close the blinds and turn on lights in the house before the sun goes down, keep the tv on low volume or play soft music. Sometimes these things helped and sometimes they did not. Sometimes I would just get out of his sight in another room and eventually he would come back to hisself and come looking for me and he would be glad he found me and the evening would be better. Also make sure sure there was a dim light in the bedroom while sleeping Hope this helps in some way. 🌹🤔😊
I wish I had some words of wisdom, but that is our challenge as well, so I look forward to the Teams input.
Thank you so much. My husband is tough. I finally had to go to my sons house on Saturday night. He was determined that I leave. I've learned to not respond to any of his comments. I had to leave without a car too. Luckily my son lives a block away. The next day he was his old self. Until the next time. I have a call into his doctor. It's really hard.
