How Have Your Love One Reacted To Stopping Their Meds?
My husband started hospice about a ten days ago. They discontinued his donzepil and memantine and I was concerned about rapid decline( he’d already been declining quickly the last couple months). However he seems to be doing better and is doing small things that he hasn’t done in months. I can’t find any information on this. Has anyone else experienced this?
Those dementia meds are reported to be of no/little use after a certain stage as they are used to slow cognitive decline....by middle stage dementia they have little effect and are often discontinued.....nice to hear hubby is getting a positive response to meds being stopped.
Yes thank you
Early in 2020 I had mom evaluated for hospice on the recommendation of a friend. She was not admitted then, but when she stopped walking, was becoming very difficult to understand, having trouble feeding herself they came again to evaluate. And she qualified. Your doctor can recommend and evaluation, they know what to look for.
Even now after 5 month in the program she is not bedridden yet. I can still get her up and down, and do so.
Hope this helps.
What was the trigger to start hospice? Fully bedridden?
Please keep posting on how he does. Mom went on hospice 4 months ago and they have kept her on all her meds.
