Assistance Paying For In Home Care
I have been the primary caregiver for my 86 yr old father now for three yrs after my mother passed away. I have had a provider coming during the day while I am working but now I am needing assistance at night. This is draining me financially and I know after a few months I no longer will have the funds without taking a loan or something. Have you tried Hospice. They aren't just for "nearing the end". They have aides and nurses to come in and help. They supply diapers, Chuck's, wipes and gloves. Check them out.
If he qualifies for Medicaid there is help with Respite, Meals on Wheels, Daycare Centers, Home Health and several other services. Medicaid is very hard to get. Talk to your local Hospice. They care for Alzheimer patients now.
I've discovered that unless they qualify for Medicaid or are a veteran, you have to do private pay. Sitters and Adult Day Centers in my area average $24 per hour. Hope this helps.
If you could get him enrolled in a Daycare program, perhaps you could divert some of your funds to evening caregivers? Our community has one that includes lunch and transportation. We had to place Mom in assisted living because I couldn't keep up with it and she refused to move to my home. I slept at night for the first time in a year.
