My dear husband has become more confused and night times are especially difficult as he gets up several times wandering in our home of 37 years. My concern is that if he went into a MC respite for 2-4 weeks, he would lose the memory/ ability to navigate our home again. Unfortunately, there are no adult day activities centers in our area. I am private paying caregivers for 3 mornings a week so I can have some alone time away from the house.(I have to sneak out of the house as my husband wants to go out with me.)
I am a 75 yr old lady starting (and looking!) worn out!

It is possible and some people do that as long as you are able to provide the care she needs at home. You have to take into consideration that she is not going to get better and paying for a personal care worker to come in is generally cheaper than MC. It is good that you are thinking about options. I would recommend that you contact your county ADRC (Aging &Disabilty Resource Center). They have a lot of information not only on MC places in your area to check out, but also adult day care, respite care and personal care workers to come into your home. Some counties also have a list of sitters that can come in and sit with your wife for a few hours. (Personally, I’d prefer a PCA (Personal care worker who can give them a bath and dress them). The ADRC can also give you information regarding parameters for financial assistance and how far you have to spend down on your money for your wife to qualify for medical assistance if she goes to MC, as well as what things you can do before you reach the spend down point. (You can’t give large amounts of $ away, but you can pay down debts, fix up your house, purchase a vehicle, prepay funeral expenses etc.)
