Any Suggestions How To Keep My End Stage Wife In A Hospital Bed At Home? I Don't Have It Yet But Want To Be Prepared.
You can always just put the mattress directly on the floor. You have to get down on your knees to bathe them, reposition, etc, but you know if they roll out of bed, it’s a few inches to the floor. Have a fall pad near the bed and it will not only cushion your knees, but they won’t roll to a hard floor and will be pretty comfortable there.
We have a hospital bed, provided by hospice. It has an electronic remote to raise or lower the bed, or the head or feet. It also has side rails at the head half of the bed. The mattress isn’t the greatest, though. I bought an egg crate memory foam mattress topper and a waterproof mattress pad to put over it.
Good to know. We have a pretty small house. I think I'll hold off on the mattress topper for now but it is certainly an option. Part of my problem is I can't hear at night. I have cochlear implants and have to take the processors off to recharge.
I seem to remember that @A myALZteam Member had a similar problem in the final weeks of her husband at home.
Thank you. I had talked to one Hospice person and they didn't mention a low bed. I will talk to the RN next week. Thank you.
