My Husband And I Are Traveling For Christmas Holidays. 2 Hour Plane Flight And 5 Day Hotels Stay? And Tips?
Stage 4/5 Alzheimer’s
I don't know if this helps or not, when we went to the Alzheimer's conference in Philadelphia we flew on Southwest Airlines from Chicago. They allowed us to board first & get settled in with others that needed assistance. It helped my stress level.
I worry when we go to Florida that nothing agitates him, especially on the train.I will keep going places and handle each new issue. I need this so I too have good memories to hold on to ❤️
I think the biggest question is what his overall demeanor is when he gets frustrated or agitated.
We had a trip in January (Stage 4 at that point) that went well, just one blip where he got lost going to the bathroom in the hotel -- which he had successfully navigated several times before -- and I had to go looking for him. After that, he pretty much stuck to me like glue.
We had another trip in May (Stage 5 was starting) that also went pretty well overall. That one was a river cruise (small ship, only 120 people) and I had him stick to me like glue whenever we left the ship. On the ship, there were a couple of blips (couldn't find our room a couple of times; got agitated and repetitive one day and it culminated with him pulling all his clothes out of the closet) -- but not enough to discourage me from trying again while he's still in Stage 5. I'm making memories for ME. I don't think travel is going to be possible when Stage 6 comes, though.
This is a tough one. How is his level of confusion and agitation. New circumstances as I'm sure you know, are challenging to our loved ones when they are in later stages. Hope some more experienced folks chime in.
