Tooo ma y variables to properly provide an answer. A neurologist can get neuro- psych studies done, and get a more definitive answer. I have Early Stage Alzheimers, and still function well, in my 6th year. Check out my story.

I don't think it's possible for anyone in this group to answer your question, @A myALZteam Member. Alcohol abuse generally leads to Vascular Dementia, and once the use of alcohol has been stopped, the progression can be slow.
But Vascular Dementia can cause brain bleeds (strokes) so there can also be very sudden changes.

The real questions for you to ask yourself (or ask the Facility) are:
What Stage is he currently at? Does his Dementia seem to be progressing? And is he otherwise healthy?
