my understanding is that drugs. like mementine, are effective, for slowing the disease, for a limited amount of time. Even then, their effectiveness is probably not very much.

I didn't realize these drugs can cause bad dreams. But certainly not worthy taking, if that's the case, of if there are other bad side effects.

I never noticed my late husband experiencing side effects but he was taken off these type of drugs. once he reached the later stages of Alzheimer's, since the drugs were deemed superfluous.

@A myALZteam Member,
I too pray that my health remains healthy enough to care for my hubby as long as he needs the care. My husband also demonstrates a lot of what you are describing, when I ask him to get something he goes to do it but never can get what I ask for unless I go show him where and what. Manytimes he don't know where the bathroom is or the bedroom for example. My opinion, he noticeably has declined enough this last year to the point that its clear the prolonging part don't make sense anymore. The side effects outweigh the benefits. May God continue to bless us caregivers with strength, courage and peace.

My husband is incontinent, and has been for2 years. He also has ALS along with dementia. He can't walk, but can stand holding on to the bed long enough to get him changed. His ability to stand is getting weaker now. I'm not sure how much longer that's going to work. I can handle the disability, but the dementia is harder. I don't feel connected to my partner like we used to be. I feel alone, he's not here anymore. He's not on any meds except for BP and Baclofen for muscle spasms. I love my dear husband of 47 years, but why would we want to prolong his life to suffer? Bless you all who are dealing with this

The way you describe your husband is a lot like mine. I get everything ready for his shower, tell him when he needs to take one and have to assist him and male sure he is doing things right whenever he tries to help with anything. He still feeds himself and is not incontinent yet but does have to go more often. He also has trouble understanding what is said and completing sentences.
