Does Your Loved One Take Things That Are Not Theirs?

My mom has dementia/Alzheimer’s and has been visiting her grandson for a couple of weeks. She has started taking things that do not belong to her and putting them in her pocket, purse or suitcase. Things like coins, watch charger, water bottles, tissues, toothbrush charger, prescription, odd items.

My father in law used to help himself to candy from the open bins at the grocery store. One time when we were with him and going through the checkout, I told the clerk that I wanted to pay for the candy that he helped himself to. He said “Don’t worry about it. He does that all the time.”

Yes, my husband went through that phase. One time he stayed with my sister and BIL while I went to a friend’s surprise birthday party. A day or so later I noticed he had 2 watches on. I didn’t think much about it because he had one that looked similar. Next time we saw my sister, I found out that my BIL was missing his watch!
