Just Wondering …how Do You Pay For Memory Care If You Can’t Come Up With The 5-10k Per Month For A Private Facility?
Talk to an edercare lawyer about how to qualify for Medicaid and look for a MC that accepts Medicaid.
I don't know what State you're in but in California you can get a caregiver for 4hrs. a day five days a week and if you can be his caregiver they'll pay you. It's not much, but it is something. I hope you get the help you need. Take care, Kitty 😺 ❤️
An Elder Law attorney MAY BE expensive,…but it depends on how much money you have and how much you feel you would need to live on for yourself so that you don’t end up living in poverty. Different states have different amounts that a spouse is allowed to keep that doesn’t have to be spent down, plus you might be able to protect an additional amount with a promissory note. I don’t have a lot of money, but enough, plus some investments that it will make it worth it for me to work with an Elder Law attorney, then the Senior Planning Group (that also costs money) to tell me all that I have to do. It is all legal. It is all making me get my finances in order, which is good, though it has taken a lot of time. I feel it has been totally worth it at this point. Also…ADRC told me that they could only do so much and that I needed to take this path, then once I have my finances taken care of, I can apply for Medicaid for my husband.
I would advise you to call the ADRC (Aging & Disability Resource Center) in your county. Just call your county seat and ask for the department of aging. It is free (attorneys are expensive!). They will be able to give you information on what you need to do In order to qualify for Medical assistance. The regs are different in different states. With my MIL we had to spend down her money to a certain amount. They encouraged me to prepay the funeral. It was like a life insurance plan with the funeral home and anything left over went to the state. Then you have to be sure that whatever Dr. He sees excepts MA. Also if he qualifies for Hospice care, that will cover the cost for LTC, so you may want to ask his Dr about Hospice.
I found a elder lawyer that someone used for their family that was very decent in price. He's been a lifesaver! We got a trust for my dad. As long as nothing major happens between now and five years, all his big stuff and property will go to the people in the trust. We did paperwork this July. We should have done it last year. Trying to do home health care and day care now and then assisted living or our house later. Even through lots of people think he needs to go into assisted living. My dad wants to stay at his house as long as possible. Hugs and good luck!
