As a result, he often won't go to the bathroom and sits in wet clothes for hours. He doesn't seem to realize that he's wet.

My grandmother closes her eyes. Her way of shutting us out.

My husband is at that same place. He goes through many articles of clothing every day. Don’t know why he can’t feel that he is wet. That is one reason why I finally realized I cannot care for him at home.

The above are coping mechanisms, like problem avoidance. It could show some level of depression or oppositional deviance. Dr's have meds for both. Perhaps ALZ have Counselors with ideas. Check with your local office.

My husband used to do that to. He would either stare straight ahead or turn his head to the side. He would also sometime slowly close his eyes, as @A myALZteam Member mentioned, for several seconds to let me know he didn’t want to do or talk about something.
