Change Of Mood After A Meal

A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭
East Gosford

My mother becomes very cranky and argumentative after a meal and this can last for quite a while. It is getting to the stage that I am so anxious that I either can’t eat myself or I am sick after a meal. It doesn’t matter if we eat at home or out and I just don’t now how long I can handle it for 😞

Llisa, I'm wondering if your mother is having pain after a meal? My husband, Bud, vomited blood twice before we knew he was probably suffering with an ulcer. Meds have greatly improved his appetite and stopped the upset stomach.

Interesting question....as an RN i think increased blood flow to digestive system might lower oxygen level to brain and cause agitation... ? this is why we were always told not to swim until 1 hour after eating. My only suggestion would be to see if mother would do some deep breathing after meal to increase blood oxygen....she could be having low oxygen level at times or be mildly anemic and then digestion consumes oxygen energy....assuming agitation lasts 1 - 2 hours. Maybe family dr could check resting/sleeping oxygen level and blood iron.
