Moderate Stage
When do you decide to move to assisted living from independent living? Stove has been unplugged, doesn't seem to cook or heat up much anymore, one meal per day provided by facility is included, meals are brought in often by family and friends. I believe she has forgotten how to use the washer and dryer but of course has an excuse as to what is going on with it. I have started doing her laundry. In any given day she can range from totally off to great detail and recall. My fear is that she will… read more
We moved my mom this past spring and have not regretted it at all!! She was only eating yogurt and Boost drinks before unless we brought her food which I tried to make sure she had a least one decent meal a day. But she was just sitting a looking out window or watching TV. She was not getting up or moving around at all.
We found a wonderful place that has a ton of activities which she is thoroughly enjoying. I was taking care of her meds as well before. But now I can just go and visit and enjoy her and not have to be busy the whole time I'm there about what she is and is not doing! She gets 3 meals a day! She isn't a big eater but it's available!
She told me the other day she loves it there and is so glad we found this place for her! She has regressed some since being there but she has also had 2 hospital that involved her heart so she would not have the option to live alone anyway! So I feel we moved her just in time!
I was told to make the move before we felt the need so the transition would go smoother than when it was necessary and her feel like we were abandoning her! Very good advice!!
Hope this helps
We moved my mom to assisted living when she started losing weight and was messing up on her meds. Once we found a good home (a private residence in this case), she regained her weight, was back on a regular schedule with her meds and improved tremendously overall.
That is the hardest part I would think
You might be surprised that she could find a new friend but sounds like it’s time.
Thank you and best wishes and peace.
