My Mom 89 Has Sundowners
just need to know how to help her same she getting worth i love her gave her back rub that help but she gets so upset sometime she says stuff thats bad what type of activity can i use to keep her mind busy
I used to take her outside to see the sunset or have her HELP with dinner. Sometimes we would take a walk or drive. She's confused so don't get upset or she'll stay confused. Give her something to look forward to. Hope this helps a bit. Prayers
Daylight bulbs helped me with my dad, which I would turn on just as the light began to change in the house.
Hi lisa my mum is also 89 when she gets agitated i do manicures and foot soaks and pedicures.
I also play C.D.s. of restful music and meditation music while doing these things it does help distract them.hugs and prayers to you and your family.
thank you
Hi Lisa, sundowning is a difficult one to deal with. The person’ levels of anxiety and agitation rise significantly. Unfortunately, no-one knows why or how it happens. The suspicion is that their body clock gets out of its routine and it creates some confusion for them. You are on the right track with the back rub. Anyhting that is calming tends to help but it probably won’t eliminate it altogether. Quiet music, as little noise as possible, good light in rooms etc are all things that can help. I found a good half hour walk a day has helped my wife’s anxiety and agitation levels significantly. Exercise is a good thing for Alz patients.
