A fall in our driveway before Thanksgiving, broken femur, surgery, hospital stay, Skilled Nursing stay, and finally home - all have seriously affected cognition level. He no longer can walk. In-home therapy is occurring. Yesterday, called Late Stage Alzheimer’s.
My mom has been eating only blended food for a while now. With a hand held blender I purée whatever we are having . If it’s not soup I add chicken broth. I’ve have discovered that rice is best to… read more

Has Anyones Family Member That They Are Caring For Refuse To Eat Meat?
Just tonight she picked through her macaroni with meat sauce and picked out all the hamburg. Won't eat steak or pork chops. Says, she doesn't like meat anymore but I think its getting too hard for hercto swallow it. I give her a protein drink every day as a supplement.
So far I don’t have this problem with Dan. He does sneak into the pantry looking for cookies or applesauce but he still eats. He has eaten the same exact breakfast for a year. He never wants anything… read more
I Need To Hear From Others Whose Loved One Is 100% Bedridden.
My Mamma is 100% bedcare/bedridden. It pains her greatly to be rolled on her side for cleaning. It hurts me to have to do it to her, but I have to. I am one tiny person, and my back is paining me so it can be difficult to get her clean with one hand and holding her with the other to push her off her back. No, I cannot afford help. I don't have any firm wedges to hold her up. She gets weaker, plus her heart pains her when she has to be turned up for diaper changes, etc
There has to… read more

ADLs Vs. IADLs - When To Move Into Assisted Living
Hi. I became familiar with ADLs a couple years ago, but just learned the term IADLs. I found this list of differences helpful: https://www.seniorplanningservices.com/files/20...
Currently, my dad does well with ADLs but the IADLS are difficult or not possible for him.
Do people move into Assisted Living when they don't seem to need help with ADLs yet? As I said, he can do ADLs but not many IADLs well.
It all makes sense. I can only imagine she is against the idea, but you have to do what you think is best for her. Keep us posted.
Do Dementia Patients Realize How Much They Eat?
My dad seems to eating and eat and eat. Last Friday night, we went out for dinner. We ordered cheese sticks and pizza and got root beer.
My husband and I ate a few cheese sticks and a few pieces of pizza. There were two pieces of pizza leftover. We think he ate 4 hour pieces of pizza and 4 cheese sticks. He also had 3 glasses of root beer.
This isn't the first time either. I have noticed at breakfast or lunch when I give him a certain amount, he only eats those. When there's a free… read more

Has Anyone Heard Of The 21 Day Memory Repair Protocol Diet? If So, Has Anyone Tried It?
Supposedly, it gets rid of all sugar in your diet in an effort to get ketones working in the brain again. I wanted to try it, but thought it might be a scam.
I was on Keto diet myself- lost 22 pounds, but Barry loves sweets and eats several bowls of cereal for his multiple breakfasts which he fixes- was having 2 eggs with marg & jam (better) but think he's… read more
